Yes, The Scot is all over Hyundai these days… in a good way!
Today, Hyundai Motor Company (USA) launched the new Genesis Coupe. While it has been on sale since February of this year in North America, it was offically annouced at a press conference, and online webcast today.
Now, The Scot loves cars. Especially a rear wheel drive coupe with gobs of torque, good weight balance and the ability to take a corner or two while not leaning on it’s side view mirrors. It would seem as though the Genesis Coupe covers all these bases, and more! Plus it’s high QPR makes me all moisty on the inside.
One of my first cars was a 1982 Mazda RX7. As RWD coupes go this was one of the best around. Toyota’s MR2 was always a close second in my eyes. Yes, the engine was in the “right place” but it wasn’t a Wankel. Besides, the front-mid positioning of the RX7 engine meant it was technically mid-engined as well, but I digress.
The Genesis coupe is at the top of my list at the moment for the new car purchase. While the purchase is still many months away, it’s a top contender, and here’s why:
- Sub $25,000 for a 200HP car with all the good stuff mentioned above. Peak over the $30K mark and you get even more power! 306HP! More power=more fun!
- This car, along with it’s amazing second-to-none warranty, super high QPR and excellent looks is getting me all hot and bothered.
- I can say “I own a Hyundai” and people will look at me funny.
- They’re winning awards for quality and reliability all over the place.
- I could blow the doors off many cars in a much higher price range.
- They’re going to be offering the coupe in an “R-Spec” version. Less weight! Though the Scot’s wife might not approve of owning what amounts to a race car in street clothing.
So for all those people who think Hyundai is still a junk brand… What say you now Infiniti owners?
Oh, and big-ups to Hyundai for web-casting the press conferene and letting the non Automotive Elite in to ask questions! Good money-saving idea too.
